Ray Cardinal

Indigenous Co-Chair, IAMC-TMX and Representative for Alberta First Nations

Ray Cardinal is the current Chair of the Indigenous Caucus and Indigenous CoChair of the IAMC-TMX. He has served on the committee since its inception, initially representing Alberta First Nations, and brings decades of experience in Indigenous governance, energy sector engagement, and workforce development.

Ray grew up in northern Alberta, spending most of his youth at Sucker Creek First Nation. He is one of six children and the son of the late Harold Cardinal, a prominent Indigenous leader, and Maisie Cardinal. Ray earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Saskatchewan and a Master of Arts from the University of Arizona. He is a proud father to one son.

Professionally, Ray has held leadership roles across multiple sectors. He was a Senior Advisor with Shell Canada, specializing in Aboriginal Business and Workforce Development, and previously served as Industry Relations Manager for Paul First Nation, Chief of Staff at Sucker Creek First Nation, and Consultant with Harold Cardinal & Associates. His work has focused on monitoring, engagement, emergency preparedness, and capacity building.

Ray continues to serve in national and international leadership roles, including as Indigenous Chair of IAMC-TMX and as a member of the IAIA-WNC Executive Committee. He remains a proud member of Sucker Creek First Nation and a committed advocate for Indigenous inclusion and leadership in regulatory oversight and environmental stewardship.
